Fun facts about the creation of PRIMAL:

Our efficiency with a four person crew was absurd by traditional filmmaking standards. For example, we shot 11 pages in 4 hours for all of the grocery store scenes and I’m quite proud of that. We only had 4 hours before the location opened back up and it was go time. Looking back, some of the things we pulled off were mythically lucky. Here’s a few details that I would love people to know about Primal:

  • We stumbled upon the Jungle location for the fight scene at the end. We just happened to find an empty pond in the middle of palm fronds.

  • I called a car dealership and asked to borrow a car for the production and they let us use a brand new Passat for free. And similarly, a guy on ShareGrid let us use his camera for 75% off. We couldn’t have done it without these angels.

  • The first cut of the movie was two hours and ten minutes long. We cut 40% of the scenes we actually shot but that’s how it is sometimes. ● In the scene when Alice breaks up with Blake, the actress playing Alice improved most of her scene. It was insane.

  • When Elijah gets smacked, the deal was that if he gets to actually grab Maggie’s butt, she should actually be able to hit him. And that part where she SMACKS him is how I’ve been syncing the audio to the movie this whole time.
