SILENCE&DARKNESS — written by John Humphreys
I’ve been working on this script since 2014 and it’s been an insane thought experiment to try and figure out how in the world a blind person and deaf person can communicate to escape the clutches of this lunatic.
This story is about how much we let fear control us. The main character, Saran, is a 18-24 year old kid who was abandoned as a child with his sister deep in the Appalachian mountains. He lets fear of abandonment take his actions to extremes by chaining his sister to him, setting up intense security, and playing mind games to enhance the terror. Not only does Saran understand what it’s like to be afraid every day, he uses fear to imprison those around him.
I’m really connecting to this story lately. These feelings of isolation, uncertainty, and looming danger of lying to yourself ring true to me. I’m super excited to see this on screen it means a lot to me.
